With the arrival of the US Marines in Haiti, the people responded very
poorly. They are angered by our presence in their land and they want us to
leave. They feel as though we want to bring harm to them and we can see this in
the Peralte Letters. It clearly says “Down with the Americans!” which shows us
very directly that they do not want us interfering in their country. They
attack the president by saying, “Let’s get rid of those savage people, whose
beastly character is evident in the person of their President Wilson---traitor,
bandit, trouble maker, and thief. Tjis is all caused by the presence of the US Marines which angered the Haitian people. The marines were their to protect forein property and lives so they were trying to do a good thing. this was just not seen by the Haitians
